Creative curriculum
A creative curriculum aims to provide an atmosphere where:
• young people take initiative
• young people are encouraged to aim to achieve the highest possible standards
• young people are encouraged to develop their own skills, understanding and flexibility to meet new situations with confidence
• young people have an opportunity to develop their creative abilities by pursuing individual skills and interests in an environment which
o teaches skills o provides varied stimuli
o encourages experimentation and provides
• an atmosphere in which the teacher and the environment are seen as a resource
• an atmosphere where learning objectives are negotiated and renegotiated and new and original ideas are welcomed, subject to disciplined evaluation and rigorous criticism and appraisal
• recognition of the value of group work, drawing on the strengths and talents of different members of the team
• an emphasis on problem solving approaches - where learning by doing, working and redrafting are valued as much as the ‘end product’
• an atmosphere where accumulated knowledge is valued but where there is equal value placed on the generation of new ideas and material
