Abigail Taylor performed the Elgar Cello Concerto last night at the Shrewsbury Music Hall to win the 2006 Shropshire Music Service Concerto Competition. In an outstandingly moving performance that the adjudicator, Mr Stuart Johnson, said, “Brought tears to my eyes”, she was accompanied by the Shropshire Sinfonia (Staff and senior students of The Shropshire Music Service).
The performance was recorded by local BBC Radio Shropshire and can be heard at 8pm on Easter Saturday 2006.
Other worth finalists were Eloise Wyke (Violin), Nick Russell (Clarinet) and Sarah Lee (Oboe). Mr Stuart Johnson praised the high quality of all performances and commented in an interview with Radio Shropshire that the standard was extremely high this year.

Plans are afoot for the next teachers Composition weekend at Arthog on the Mid-Wales coast, overlooking the dramatic and beautiful Afon Mawddach. The weekend involves work with a professional composer and, in the company of others or working alone, creating music, with coaching from the professional composer and the Adviser for Music, drawing ideas from the local environment.
